Generations : Nelson Hiu is a sound collection of aleatoric compositions that are based on a live improvised performance recording of the musician Nelson Hiu in Peng Chau, Hong Kong.
'Generations:_' is a project that uses aleatoric methods to create compositions using field recordings. By using chance to make the final composition, more focus can be concentrated on gathering source recordings. This also allows a more organic evolution for each Generation process.
In brief, the composition is made by compiling sequences of preprogrammed MIDI commands to control 4 reel to reel tape recorders with a digital sequencer. These functions are chosen by a random number generator. As the sequence plays back, both the sounds on the tape and the sound of the recorders are documented blurring the lines between past and present, time and space. The re-recording of previous passes further distorts this experience.
There are 10 unique tracks in this collection. There will only be one mint made for each of the tracks after which the original tape will be erased and used for another Generation.
Owner(s) will receive a link to the WAV file to download for non-commercial use. All audio is used with permission.
